How the subnet calculation works
The CIDR prefix defines how many leading bits belong to the network. The remaining bits define the block of addresses. This calculator derives the network address, subnet mask, wildcard mask and broadcast address from that block.
Usable host counts
For prefixes /0 through /30, the conventional host range excludes network and broadcast addresses. A /31 has two usable addresses for point-to-point links. A /32 describes one address.
Before applying a network plan
Check the proposed block against connected and remote networks to prevent overlap. Confirm gateway, DHCP pool, VLAN and firewall settings on your own equipment. This tool calculates values only.
