When to summarize an IP range
Network inventories, firewall rules and routing plans sometimes use a start and end address. CIDR notation represents a range as aligned network blocks.
Why can the result contain several blocks?
A CIDR block has a power-of-two size and a correctly aligned starting address. If a range does not align to one block, the converter returns the smallest exact set that covers it without adding extra addresses.
Check before using the result
Confirm the original range belongs to a network you administer and review each block before adding it to a route or access rule. This browser tool does not change network equipment.
